In 1995, Goleman did a study and wrote a book on Emotional Quotient (EQ). He argued that one's EQ is more important their IQ (Intelligence Quotient) in predicting a person's success in life. What do you think?
1) Take the EQ test at: www.ihhp.com/quiz.php
2) Post your answer to this question: If you had to choose, would you rather have a high IQ or EQ? Why?
I would want a better EQ. They can both bring success, but what fun would a life of luxury be without someone to share it with. People with extremely high IQs tend to be a bit on the socially inept side. I know that is stereotyping, but I'm sure there is a study out there that could prove my statement.
ReplyDeleteNOOOO!!! I hate grammatical errors! Please pretend that there is a ? at the end of my second sentence in my previous comment.

Congratulations! You have very high emotional intelligence. This is good news! EQ counts for twice as much as IQ and technical skills combined in determining who will be a star performer. Your level of EQ likely has been and will be a driver of your high performance for years to come. Areas to work on: While you are doing well - don't forget to take time out of your busy day-to-day activities to stop and reflect on what brings you the greatest meaning in your life. If we fail to do this on a regular basis, we risk becoming tranquilized by the trivial. Sedated by the small details. Yes, deadlines need meeting and goals must be achieved. But if we are working toward goals that are not in alignment with our key values and greater purpose, we face becoming hostile and cynical - losing the reason we are doing 'all of this' in this first place! This translates into less joy and enthusiasm for our work - resulting in a diminished ability to be effective, at ease, and on purpose. As William James said: I have no doubt whatever that most people live, whether physically, intellectually, or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness... much like a man who, out of his whole body organism, should get into the habit of using and moving only his little finger... We all have reservoirs of life to draw upon, of which we do not dream.
That is what I got on my quiz. I would rather have a higher EQ than a higher IQ because EQ counts for twice as much as IQ. If combined with the right technical skills, a person with a high EQ can become quite the "star performer".
I agree with the first comment, I would also want a better EQ. I've never been to worried about my IQ let alone my EQ. But once I read this blog and took the quiz, in my opinion, I would rather have a better EQ due to the fact that if my IQ isn't as high, with a high EQ, I can pretty much accomplish anything I put my mind to and without avoiding anything.
ReplyDeleteI got a slightly above average EQ when I took the quiz. I think EQ is great but I would rather have a higher IQ. If ones IQ is higher, then maybe things would be alot easier especially all of the school work and work in general. I just don't think EQ can take you as far as IQ can take you in being successful.
ReplyDeleteMy score is 51. I think I've always felt that Emotional Intelligence is essential to every person. In the most natural sense, humans must posess basic knowledge of anothers' emotional scale. This knowledge acts like a natural gauge for their interaction. Thus, EQ is vital for effective communication.
ReplyDeleteWhile the intelligence quotient can be raised with learning and memorization, raising E.Q. must be experienced first-hand. Therefore, I'd rather have greater emotional intelligence to help navigate my way toward increasing my IQ :)
To be perfectly honest, this "Emotional Quotient" test just seems to determine how pragmatic and logical you are.
ReplyDeleteThe more logical you are, the better chance of survival and success you will have in life. If you have a low EQ you're going to end up a moon-bat liberal, and a low IQ results in you being dumber than a sack of hammers. Either outcome leads to a person incapable of logical decision making, and critical thinking under stress.
Okay so my score was 51. The one I would think was more important would depend on my IQ score. lol. They are probably equally important.
ReplyDeletelol I love what Alyssa said!
